P.H. Glatfelter Company to trade on the New York Stock Exchange

Spring Grove, PA October 6, 1998: P. H. Glatfelter Company (AMEX: GLT) today announced that it has filed an application to list its stock on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

Pending final approval from the NYSE, P. H. Glatfelter officials expect the Company’s shares will commence trading under the ticker symbol GLT in mid to late November of this year. Glatfelter has applied for listing approximately 54,000,000 shares of common stock that are currently traded on the American Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol GLT.

George H. Glatfelter II, President and Chief Executive Officer, stated that the decision to make the switch from the AMEX to the NYSE came after the Company’s January acquisition of Papierfabrik Schoeller & Hoesch, a German producer of tea bag and other long fiber papers, tobacco papers and other specialty papers. "We want to provide our current and future shareholders with the best and most efficient market in which to trade our stock," Mr. Glatfelter said.
